Season's Greetings!

The "team" at Northern BC Tourism Association would like to wish you a Merry  Christmas and a prosperous and healthy new year.

Our Prince George office will be closed from December 20, 2007 to January 2, 2008, to allow our staff time to celebrate with family.

Annual General Meeting celebrates success!

Beautiful Smithers was the backdrop for our Annual General Meeting and Conference October 18 -20, 2007. Tourism professionals from all over British Columbia showed up to learn, network, and celebrate the successes of the past year. Spectacular new footage of our region was showcased, the 2008/2009 marketing plan was unveiled, and the new board of Directors was elected. And, of course, who could forget our lovable and entertaining emcee, Simon?

The Northern Exposure tourism awards were presented:

Northern Pride, recognizing the diversity and significance of the northern experience, was awarded jointly to Haida Heritage Centre at Kaay Llnagaay for their support of the “Raid the North Extreme Adventure Race” and to Tourism Dawson Creek for the Alaska Highway House.

Northern Promotion, recognizing a unique and effective marketing initiative, went to

Tourism Dawson Creek for their “Lasting
Memories” special event program.

Tourism Prince Rupert sponsored a special new award, the Walter Smith Visionary Award. Walter Smith, a long-time Prince Rupert businessman and tourism ambassador, was on hand to receive the inaugural award, and show delegates how he has been greeting visitors for years.

Canada's West Marketplace

Northern British Columbia Tourism joined more than 650 tourism professionals from across the world from November 25 – 28, 2007 for the 20th Annual Canada’s West Marketplace trade show.

Each year, the Marketplace brings together British Columbia and Alberta tourism suppliers with tourism buyers from across the world.  Since its inception, the Marketplace has proven to be an excellent forum for tourism businesses to promote their range of products to tour operators and wholesalers representatives from Europe, Asia/Pacific and the Americas.

This year, CEO Anthony Everett and new staff member Jill Greenwood (see below) met with over 100 buyers and will be following up on specific leads and requests for information.

They reported a growing interest in northern BC in all markets, particularly with products and packages that include unique lodges, wildlife viewing and active travel.
