Port Clements

Port Clements is located at the estuary of the Yakoun River on the "inland sea" of Masset Inlet.  The community provides accommodation, gas, neighbourhood pub and general stores as well as several B & Bs and an extremely interesting museum.

The Golden Spruce tree grew on the west bank of the Yakoun River just south of Port Clements on the road to Juskatla.  The tree, a Sitka Spruce, was the most famous tree on the Charlottes and had golden needles.  In 1997 the tree was cut down in an act of protest and the story made international news.  The trail to the Spruce is still a worthwhile hike, displaying temperate rain forest.

The Haida Canoe is a few miles south of Port Clements and is one of the many traces of Haida use of the cedar forests of the Yakoun River Valley.   There is a boardwalk and trail into the canoe site.
