Portland Charters has operated as a fish charter business on the Portland Canal since 1976. Captain Ron knows this area, it's history & inhabitants only too well. His knowledge of fish and their environment is a delight for families with children. His colorful stories are entertaining to those who have asked to hear the history of this rugged wilderness.
Fishing on the Portland is not like other areas of the west coast. The Portland is a feed zone for the Chinook (King) salmon, and are here all year long. There is a wide variety of other species here: Halibut, Rock Cods, Ling Cods, Red Snappers, Prawns and Crabs.
For small groups, we can take you for a short tour, day charters, or go for days and stay at our quaint fish camp. The camp is fully contained. A bathroom is complete with shower. It has seven clean bunks for a comfortable nights sleep. We provide a bottom sheet with a full pillow. All you need is a sleeping bag. The kitchen has a full size propane cook stove and a small diesel cook stove to provide plenty of cooking & heating for those wet days.
Relax in the livingroom with a good book or view some of the videos produced on the areas history while waiting for that special meal.
Our location is remote and non-congested . You will fish a pristine rugged wilderness that you could imagine being virtually untouched. Stewart is accessible by road or charter planes.
For those that would like to bring their own boat, the camp can be rented without services. Make reservations and you'll be sure to have a wilderness experience you'll tell tales of to your friends and neighbours for years to come.
Hope to meet you soon! Captain Ron McFadzen of the Portland Chaters
