Stewart/Hyder International Chamber of Commerce

The neighbouring communities of Stewart, BC and Hyder, Alaska are nestled at the head of the Portland Canal, a 90 mile long ocean fjord which forms a natural boundary between Canada and Alaska. Stewart is Canada’s most northerly ice-free, deep-sea port and is set against towering peaks with hundreds of scenic waterfalls. The 67 kms of paved highway links Stewart with Hwy 37, traveling past the spectacular mountains and hanging glaciers of the Bear Pass. Stewart and Hyder have all the amenities to make your stay comfortable and memorable. Stop in for a visit and enjoy our great Northern Hospitality.

  • View the Bears feeding on salmon at world renowned Fish Creek, located 4 miles from Hyder
  • Catch  a bus tour up to the Salmon Glacier, Canada’s largest glacier accessible by road
  • Take advantage of our year-round salt and fresh water fishing
  • See nature at its best with our variety of hiking trails or take a stroll on the boardwalk, located at the Info Centre
  • Visit the Stewart Historical Museum located in the old Stewart Firehall (c. 1926) where you can experience the glory days of mining & the many movies the have been filmed in the area.
  • Take the heritage walking tour that lets you view the historical homes & buildings of Stewart
  • Stewart/Hyder International Rodeo. A BC sanctioned rodeo, held yearly on the second weekend of June.
  • International Days, held annually July 1-4, kids games, parades, slo-pitch tournament, fireworks and much more.
  • Winter sports such as snowmobiling are a treat on our glacier-capped mountains, for extreme sports enthusiasts, heli-sking is available
